Making a List and Checking It Twice

The past few months I have been scouring the Etsy forums trying to glean some insight into opening a shop. Etsy members are quite helpful and there is a ton of information freely available to newbies. The first thing I learned was that I had a lot to learn. I may not have risen to the rank of master but I feel pretty good about my shop’s chances of success over the next few months.

Right now I’m focusing on building a good foundation. All weekend I have tweaked all the titles and keywords for the whopping “10″ items that I have listed in my shop. It is really tough trying to come up with something that passes the SEO smell test. Also, I may do another photo shoot for my “10″ items before proceeding to add more items. I really want to get a rhythm/pattern down before I add too many items. Ten is proving to be a little unwieldy but I am loving every minute.

My March Etsy goals entail filling up my shop with 50 items. In April, I will switch gears and focus on promotion while adding a few items here and there. In May, I will check my progress and decide what represents the next best step.
